What Chrome 156 Fixes
According to the security breakdown reported by Windows Forum, the 353 fixes include 6 critical, 61 high, 197 medium and 89 low severity bugs. The most serious is CVE-2026-113072, a memory corruption bug in CSS with a CVSS score of 9.6. Other critical bugs affect Skia, Accessibility, Paint and WebRTC.
Interestingly, AI tools found some of them. For example, CVE-2026-113271, a use-after-free in Accessibility, was credited to a researcher at Anthropic with help from Claude, and CVE-2026-113303 in WebRTC was credited to OpenAI Codex Security. Google says none of the bugs are known to be exploited, so these are not zero-days. Still, details become public once most users have updated, so waiting is risky.
How to Update Chrome to Version 156
On Windows, Mac and Linux
- Click the three-dot menu ⋮ in the top-right corner.
- Go to Help → About Google Chrome. Chrome checks for the update and downloads it.
- Click Relaunch. The update only applies after Chrome restarts, and your tabs reopen.
- Check that the version now starts with 156.0.8078.
On Android
Open the Google Play Store, search for Chrome and tap Update. Because Google rolls out Android updates over several days, the button may not appear right away.
On iPhone and iPad
Open the App Store, tap your profile picture and pull down to refresh the list of updates. Then tap Update next to Chrome.
Chrome 156 Update Not Showing?
Google stages Chrome releases over days or weeks, so not everyone gets the update on the same day. If About Google Chrome says you are up to date but your version is older, wait a day and check again. In addition, browsers that are never closed, such as on kiosks or work PCs, often keep running the old version, so make sure to relaunch.
Chrome 156 Changes for Developers
Chrome 156 removes fenced frames and stubs the window.fence APIs. This mainly affects ad-tech scripts and some internal web apps. If your site relied on them, test it in Chrome 156 now.
