Check your screen for dead or stuck pixels with this free dead pixel test. It fills your whole screen with solid colors one by one, so any pixel that stays black, white or the wrong color is easy to spot. Use it on a new monitor, laptop, TV or phone before the return period ends.

Dead Pixel vs Stuck Pixel

TypeWhat you seeCan it be fixed?
Dead pixelAlways black, on every colorRarely
Stuck pixelAlways one color (red, green or blue)Often, with time or gentle pressure
Hot pixelAlways whiteSometimes

A stuck pixel is much more common than a dead one. Leaving a flashing-color video running on it for 10 to 30 minutes, or gently massaging the area with a soft cloth while the screen is on, sometimes brings it back.

Is a Dead Pixel Covered by Warranty?

It depends on the brand. Many manufacturers follow the ISO 9241-307 standard and only replace a screen after a certain number of faulty pixels. Some stores offer a “zero dead pixel” guarantee or an easy return in the first days, so test new screens straight away.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a dead pixel?

Show solid full-screen colors one by one and look for a dot that does not match. Black and white backgrounds reveal most dead and hot pixels, and red, green and blue reveal stuck pixels.

Can a dead pixel spread?

No. A single dead pixel does not spread to its neighbours. If more appear over time, the panel may have a different defect.

Does this test work on phones and TVs?

Yes. Open it in the browser of any device. On a smart TV, use the browser app and full-screen mode.

Can a stuck pixel fix itself?

Sometimes. Stuck pixels can recover after a while, especially with flashing colors, but there is no guarantee.
