How fast do you type? This free typing test measures your speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy. Choose 15, 30 or 60 seconds, start typing and the timer begins with your first key. It uses common English words, works on desktop and mobile, and needs no sign-up.
How the Typing Test Works
Type each word and press Space to move to the next one. Correct words turn green and mistakes turn red. The live counter shows your current speed and accuracy, and when time is up you get your final WPM, the number of correct and wrong words, and your personal best for that test length.

- Keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;) and use all ten fingers.
- Look at the words on screen, never at your hands.
- Slow down when you make mistakes: accuracy first, speed second.
- Read one or two words ahead while you type the current one.
- Practise a little every day. For a full plan, read How to Type Faster: 8 Habits That Raise Your WPM.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good typing speed?
The average adult types about 40 words per minute. 60 WPM is good for most jobs, 80 WPM is fast and 100+ WPM is professional level. Accuracy above 95% matters as much as speed.
How is WPM calculated?
WPM counts the characters of every correctly typed word, including the space after it, divides them by 5 to get standard words, and divides by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
Which test length should I choose?
The 60-second test is the most common and gives the most reliable result. The 15-second test is good for quick practice and sprints.
Can I take this typing test on a phone?
Yes. It works with on-screen keyboards, although most people type much faster on a physical keyboard.
How can I improve my typing speed?
Learn touch typing with all ten fingers, stop looking at the keyboard, and practise 10 to 15 minutes a day. Our guide on how to type faster explains the habits step by step.
